Pont Newydd Bridge has been found to be in a poor condition and in need of replacement. A new arch bridge of similar appearance and in the same location as the existing bridge will be constructed using stone from the existing bridge where possible. The road alignment and width will be very similar to the current arrangement. A footpath with heritage style bollards to exclude vehicles will also be included and the width restriction over the bridge is to remain in force. (July 2005).

Cilcain goes Geothermal!

Geothermal heating systems have been  installed  in Cilcain.Pensioners’ bungalows in Cilcain  have one of the first installations in Wales. Water is passed through 75m deep bore holes collecting heat as it circulates. This is released into the properties  using what is effectively a freezer in reverse. Installation costs around £5,000, but running costs should be low.     Click photo to enlarger. October 06.
